ECMAScript is a scripting language, standardized by Ecma International in the ECMA-262 specification. JavaScript, its originating dialect, is a widely used client-side scripting language for web browsers.[1] JScript is the Microsoft dialect, but the two are so similar that they are often both called JavaScript or Javascript.[2] Dialects for other domains have cropped up, including server-side JavaScript (SSJS) and ActionScript.
